Our boat and Lough Derg

There is plenty of space for activities around the house. A Campfire, a footbridge, a stream and small paths invite for a leisurely stroll and for relaxation in quiet nature.

You can use our boat to row on the lake and to the islands - provided the weather is suitable! A trip to Holy Island, one of the most famous historical and ecclesiastical sites in Ireland is a must! And when you're on the lake, try your luck and catch a pike or a trout for the evening dinner. It can't get any fresher than this!
Angler's delight
For golfers we especially recommend the golf course in Portumna. We will be happy to arrange this visit to one of the most beautiful Irish golf courses. A restaurant and a bar are attached to the club house, perfect for the physical well being.

Portumna Workhouse is also worth a visit. You will see and find out where large parts of the Irish rural population fled to when trying to escape starvation at the time of the greatest poverty. Take a look at Portumna Castle , built in 1618 by the de Burgo family. And if you still have an appetite for more history, visit Birr Castle. At the end of such a day you'll surely be able to sleep well at night after the many impressions you got!
Keane‘s Pub in Mountshannon
A bike rental in the village allows you to explore more of the immediate surroundings and to discover the Irish countryside up close. Find the Stone Age tomb in the near hills or enjoy great views of the Shannon and the Tipperary Mountains.

If you're ready for some evening entertainment you might want to go to Keane's pub in Mountshannon, where the locals meet and traditional Irish music sessions take place once a week. A long night is guarantueed! On saturdays there's a market in the village specializing on organic foods.
Killaloe Cathedral
Other places to visit are Killaloe Cathedral and the Sunday market (30 mins); Limerick's shopping malls and King John's Castle (45 min); the Clare museum, the medieval shopping streets, coffee shops, restaurants and supermarkets in Ennis (45 min). On the way to Ennis you might want to take a short detour to beautiful Quin Abbey, to Knappogue Castle with a remarkable walled garden and to the stone age settlement at Craggaunowen. The wild Atlantic coast with the Cliffs of Moher and various beaches is 90 min away.
